Free speed hints to make your car fast...

Only a Few Microseconds Separates Winners from Everyone!

This one speed tip won't make you a winner... but the full set of over 40 in our #1 best seller
Winning Pinewood Derby Secrets will! Only a few microseconds separates winners from everyone else in the pack...

You can win if you have ALL of the speed secrets. You can search for tips in the internet or pick up a few speed tips from friends, but to win, you need ALL the secrets.

Some of the speed tips in our book can't be found anywhere else. How do I know? Because as an engineer, I invented new speed techniques and every one of my speed tips have been tested on my own track. So, here is one of my favorite hints (this one was not invented by me). It won't win the race for you, but it gives you an example of one of the things you can do to increase speed.

Two "key" things slow your car; friction and inertia. In our Speed section titled Race Winning Secrets, we tell you how to eliminate a source of Friction and Inertia by lifting one of the front wheels so it doesn't touch the track at all. Your car is rolling on only three wheels, thereby eliminating friction from one wheel, along with the Inertia required to get that wheel turning. Yes, the friction is re-distributed to the other three wheels but the friction from the lifted wheel has been eliminated and adding lubricant, such as graphite, reduces friction from the other three wheels.

We even performed controlled experiments to prove that this technique works to reduce your track time.

  • Change "CT" in the dark blue Driver License block to your state code
  • Change the "hgt" to the racers actual height, or make it blank and let them fill it in.
  • Change the "eyes" to the driver's eye color, or let them fill it in
  • Ask the racer to sign their license when they check in their pinewood derby car

Pinewood Derby Car Stand

We made a simple stand out of three pieces of wood (pictured below), a 1"x3" for the base, a 2"x4" for the upright and a 1"x2" for the top to hold the car. This stand only required one angle cut in the 2"x4" do the car mounted at an angle. This only requires four screws, two on the bottom and two on the top. Just apply stain and you're done! Enjoy!...hope this helps.

If you have a bad wheel and you don't have time to replace it, Raise that Wheel so it doesn't touch the track. Since it doesn't touch the track, it won't have any negative affect on your car's speed.
